Pre-Surgical Evaluations

Comprehensive Approach

Many insurance companies and surgery programs require a pre-surgical psychological evaluation to determine if you’re mentally prepared for surgeries such as bariatric/metabolic surgery. As your partners in mental and physical health, we can comprehensively care for your pre and post-surgical needs.

Bariatric Surgery Evaluations

Coping with weight and obesity-related struggles invariably involves a mental health aspect. No matter what you want for yourself, you are welcome here. In our work as Medical Health Psychologists, we’ve walked alongside many clients contemplating bariatric surgery, and we intentionally intentionally work to understand your unique challenges in our practice.

Choosing to undergo bariatric/metabolic surgery is a life changing, and sometimes life saving, decision. It will open new patterns in your relationship to self, including eating patterns, body image, coping with past experiences, or navigating how your relationships change as you and your weight change over time. We emphasize comprehensive, ongoing support in individual therapy or one of our support groups led by our providers.

Take a Step

We can’t wait to welcome you into a compassionate space that is just for you. No matter what stage you’re in or what you carry, you belong here.

1. Simple Scheduling

We invite you to schedule a complimentary 15-minute evaluation consultation with us where we will discuss your upcoming procedure, what you’re hoping to experience, challenges you’re facing, and how we can offer support.

2. Intake Forms

Once your appointment is scheduled, we will send you a questionnaire, consent form, standard privacy agreements to complete online via our HIPAA-compliant platform. These help us make the most of our time together, so please complete them prior to your appointment.

3. Evaluation Appointment

Your appointment is not a test, but an opportunity to discuss what is most important to you and the barriers you might encounter in post-surgery life. We are here to make recommendations that will ensure you are supported before and after surgery.

4. Recommendations

No surprises – your provider will openly discuss their findings with you during your evaluation. Following your appointment, your provider will write a brief report with their recommendations and share it directly with your surgical team. In the rare case that we don’t recommend you for surgery, you will know why and we will work together until you are ready.

5. Ongoing Support

We see ourselves as part of your long-term care team, and we’d love to be part of your story. Our Medical Health Psychologists offer a judgement-free space that intentionally fits with your unique experience as a surgical patient. When you encounter changes or challenges in post-surgery life, we will be here to help.

"MY RELATIONSHIPS, LITERALLY ALL OF THEM, ARE IN A BETTER PLACE SINCE WORKING WITH YOU. I HAVE LEARNED HOW TO SHOW UP IN A DIFFERENT WAY, AND THAT HAS MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.”
