Meet Kathleen Semansky, M.Ed., LPC
Kathleen Semansky is accepting new patients. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has a passion for the treatment of mood, anxiety and eating disorders, as well as relational/interpersonal issues. Her anxiety disorder experience spans obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, and trauma. She also has extensive training and experience in the treatment of insomnia, identity and development issues, family conflict and relationship struggles. She works with clients of all ages including young adults age 18+. Kathleen works via our HIPAA secure telehealth platform and she also offers in-person appointments in our office in Chevy Chase, Washington DC. She is licensed in the District of Columbia, Virginia, Washington State, Florida and Colorado. She earned her Master's of Education in Community Counseling from DePaul University and a Master's of Science from Georgetown University in Health Advocacy. Prior to graduate school, Kathleen worked extensively with foster children and unhoused youth in community mental health settings. She completed her graduate internship at Insight Behavioral Health, (now the Eating Recovery Center) with adolescents in a partial hospitalization program treating both mood and eating disorders as well as an externship at the Boulder Center for Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies. She is an active member of the American Counseling Association. Kathleen has been trained in empirically supported treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She is also a registered yoga teacher and passionate about the integration of mind and body in healing. Kathleen uses a trauma-informed approach in her work and is dedicated to building a strong relationship and alliance with her clients above all else.
